Do you have a lot of fabric scraps? I do. In fact my scrap bin has been overflowing. I’m always inspired by Amanda Jean‘s scrap quilts — have you seen her latest? — and then I realized we needed some more quilts around here. And the kind of quilts we need are the kind we can take camping, or to the beach, or on a picnic. You know, the kind that can be dragged through nature and since scraps are free that was in the price range I was thinking of I knew some scrp quilts would be jumping to the top of my to-do list.
So, back in July the scrap management began. First, I separated the scraps by color. Next I mostly cut the pieces into 2″ wide strips. I also cut a number of 3″ and 5″ squares. The 5″ squares are intended for a charm quilt — only 1 square of each fabric — and the 3″ squares are the centers for log cabin blocks. So that’s what I’ve been doing, building single colored log cabins. I’ve got 44 red ones and 32 yellow ones done so far. Up next, orange maybe? And I’ve got quite a few ideas about how to put them together. First up, my girl has requested a rainbow, ROY-G-BIV, here I come.

I love it! I am always thinking that “someday” it would be great if I could do something with my scraps…I think I just need to jump in and do it! I can’t wait to see your finished results–the log cabins look so great!
I love the top photo. It makes me want to get out my scraps and start cutting strips and small squares!
ooh, sounds pretty. Can’t wait to see how you piece them all together. I haven’t gotten brave enough to venture into the world of quilting, though I ooh-and -ahh over all the lovely work I see out there.
Jennifer,
I loved your summer music mix so here’s a fall one created by folks in my world. Thought you might enjoy…

Wonderful! Do you want to come over here and manage my scraps? Please?
Scrap quilts are my favorite!
I adore Amanda’s latest.
I must do one for my granddaughter’s doll.
Gets it out of my system….
I am also thinking that I must make a quilt from vintage sheets to keep in the car….
Oh so fresh looking and recycles things that still have some life left in them.
i love scrap management, it is so rewarding to use up and rethink what to do with them. your blocks are looking really good!
oh, you are so sweet.
i am working on some random scrap blocks, too. and they are fun! i find it so fun to work in a monochromatic scheme. i started a new quilt like that this morning, as a matter of fact. i’m looking forward to seeing more progress on your quilt! no, quilts!
Looking foward to seeing the completed quilt.
