Thorpedo

Thorpe + UNIFORM Studio

Do you remember Ian Thorpe, aka the Thorpedo, the Australian swimmer? Don’t ask anyone in this house about football, basketball, or baseball but if you need a fact about swimming, cycling, or triathlon we’re your source. Anyway, any time I see a thorpe hat I think of the thorpedo. And there have been plenty of these hats around to see. I’ve intended to make one for Tristan using leftovers from his Christmas sweater since last winter and what better time to make a wool hat than the middle of July?

My crazy love for Rowan reminded me about the hat and I was pleased to find that the yarn matched Tristan’s coat — by UNIFORM Studio — for this winter perfectly. It’s a little big but that means it should fit for a while, unlike his last hat. This pattern was so fun and quick that I will surely make more of them, now I just need to figure out who still needs a hat.

Pity Ian Thorpe isnt swimming anymore but he is attending the Beijin Olympics as support for the aussie swim team. I love the hat and it does match his cute coat very well.

Knitting wool hats in July makes perfect sense to me. We should knit warmer weather garments and accessories in the winter so they’re ready for spring and vice-versa. The hat is perfect – his little ears will not get cold with that on!

I love it. I’m finding myself starting to think about Fall (yes, even in July) and I smile at the thought of a day cold enough to wear that cozy hat!

….ummm, i need a hat. I’ve been itching to knit again. Get ahead for fall and winter, you know. Even in the middle of july with no AC in the house.
Tristan is a cutie. First pic is my fave.

Well, at the rate he is growing I am sure he will fill out that hat quickly! I remember reading about Tristan when he was just a wee one! He is SO CUTE!
