I’ve been planning to make this hat for Katie since it appeared on knitty — back when Katie wore a lot more pigtails. She does still wear them sometimes though and I had the perfect purple yarn in my stash to match her winter coat. I modified the pattern slightly so it would look a little better when worn without pigtails — the holes for her hair are vertically oriented rather than horizontally — and I didn’t do as many decreases on the crown. The decrease change was to avoid making the hat pointy and was also dictated by how much yarn I had — I used every last bit. All in all a pretty cute result, if I do say so myself.

SO cute!
it is awesome. way to go on using all the yarn-that’s a great accomplishment in itself.
My friend is making one of these for my DD. Can’t wait to put it on her this fall!
That is a great idea and a fantastic job. Is that a Richard Scarry book?
That’s very cute!
It’s as darling as she is!
So very cute! I have never seen a hat like it and as soon as my little girl has hair long enough to put in it I think I am going to have to make one.
ooooo….I think I need one of these in an adult size. I hate hats that don’t fit over my pony tails!
That is SO absolutely adorable!!! I am sure my daughter will want one (even though she’s six) as soon as she sees this! So cute!
