This year I had an early brainstorm about what to give Katrina’s preschool teachers for Christmas. Katrina loves dyeing yarn so I got some bulky natural yarn. Next she asked her teachers to tell her their favorite colors. Then we dyed the yarn to those colors using easter egg dye I bought last spring on clearance for 10 cents per box. Then I knit the yarn — amazingly soft even after dyeing — into scarves. Although the brainstorm was early I was still knitting the end of these yesterday. All in all each scarf cost me less than four bucks — $3.49 for each skein of yarn and about a dime worth of dye — and I’d say that’s money well spent.
Pattern: My So Called Scarf.
Yarn: from Knit Picks Bare – bulky weight
Yardage: one 137 yard skein for each scarf
Needles: US size 13
Gauge:
Modifications: I used a bulkier yarn and bigger needles but it’s scarves, so who cares.

they look great! I love that last photograph- you always take the best photos.
What a wonderful idea. I knit my daughter’s kinder teachers scarves last year for presents, but you went one better dyeing the yarn yourself. They look great.
Very pretty. Such vibrant colors! I can’t believe that is from Easter egg dye!
beautiful scarves! I love the pattern so much. thanks for the link. I am still trying to see if I am smart enough to try this pattern. (probably not…but I might attempt it anyway.)
so clever! i’m tucking this idea away for next year.
Genius!
I have GOT to learn to knit! Those look so great!!!
