So the weekend was spent toiling in the back yard as evidenced by my sore body and three million bug bites. But progress has been made as you can see in the photos. I’m actually very impressed with how much we accomplished considering no one else was watching the kids and we had family dinners both Saturday and Sunday nights. And while I did show you some of the ugly parts I didn’t post any photos of the horrific parts which have been cleaned up too. My fear of disturbing some critters was well founded. We did encounter a few, some more welcome than others. So a quick yeah! before I think about what more needs to be done.
I have a theory that if the yard looks nice — well cared for — the gestapo, I mean the standards inspectors, will not notice some of the things that haven’t been approved or are needing a little TLC. So, we bought three arborvitae and are planning to buy two redbuds to go between them. I’d also like to plant a crepe myrtle for the fence beyond the gate but I haven’t been able to find it in the purple color I want. Add to that some ground covering bushes for a steep slope and maybe a few flowers and we’ll be on our way. Of course there is still this side of the yard to deal with…
But this my friends, is what having a garden is all about…

looks quite lovely, and like a heck of a lot of work!
